Control Freaks – They’re Controlling Very Little

Some people love control. They cannot live without asserting their ‘authority’ over items, situations and people in their world.

It’s a vexing question... just how do we deal with these or contend for our own?

This question can be answered effectively in an unorthodox sort of way. Simply observe them in the midst of their lives. Beyond their wills they’re not controlling anything. This can almost cause us to be sad for them. It’s worse for the poor people who are married to these.

But, if we have the safety of distance—and we are our own persons, which helps—we can see for ourselves from our observations of them, that ‘taking control’ of life is really the wrong way. It’s the wrong path.

It will never get us indwelling peace, joy and contentment.

  1. For years I struggled with this Steve. I was so afraid of not having any control over my life I tried to impose my will and desires on others.

A few observations, first I made those around me miserable and fearful, which I regret and we all still pay for to some extent. Second, I really "controlled" nothing, not even myself.

It wasn't until I had all my liberty taken that I began to recognize and experience real freedom.

I found an answer in 2 Chronicles 12:7,8:

And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, "They have humbled themselves so I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some measure of deliverance, and My wrath shall not be poured out on Jerusalem by means of Shishak.

"But they will become his slaves so that they may learn the difference between My service and the service of the kingdoms of the countries."
