Floating to Somewhere Worse Than Nowhere

“Our plans miscarry because they have no aim. When a person does not know what harbor they’re making for, no wind is the right wind.”

~Seneca (adapted for gender inclusivity).

At times we wander aimlessly through life, caught on a chilling southerly and pushed right out over the sea with no land in sight. We observe as we go and yet we’re helpless to prevent passage to this place we’ve no idea where we’re destined for.

At other times we know the exact path; every step and milestone along that way is defined, calculated and ticked-off as we conquer it. It all makes so much sense.

Our destinies are important. Purpose in life is critical.

Something that’s worse than staying put during a moratorium-of-purpose is meandering aimlessly without a care.

It would be better for us to take leave of our sense and passion for ‘travel’ and really enter into the vision the God might have for our way. This refuge-land is safety where we bay anchor for stillness; sandbags for the soul, calm and quiet. And, in this, God may be silent for some protracted length of time.

Nothing is felt perhaps, but in that peace—if we’ll allow it.

We’ll be rewarded later for our patience; when the gusting winds of purpose buffet again at our sail. Best of all, maybe, we’ll know where we are.
